On Friday 10th and Saturday 11th July 2015 Canberra hosted an Australian #Climathon event! A 24hr fast paced global hackathon style event - focused on solving meaningful climate change problems.   There was creativity and collaboration with people, projects and ideas. Over 60 participants recognised that the real problems of climate change in 2015 are not technological but social and political. Their ideas reflected that by addressing issues as diverse as redefining energy, changing media narratives and promoting soil and water management.    Our Canberran teams join a global movement with the chance to take their work all the way to the global Climate summit in Paris this December. But more than that, they've come up with ideas that could help us all mitigate climate change.

WHAT HAPPENED AT THE EVENT

CLIMATHON A fast paced 24 hours to collaborate with new people and extend your networks, learn new skills to challenge your thinking and push your ideas into action. 6:00pm - 10:00pm Friday 10th July, 9:00am - 6:00pm Saturday 11th July Biginelli Espresso, Level 5, ANU Music School, Building #100, Acton, ACT We'll keep you inspired, FED and ready for action! A free event. The schedule for the 24 hour Climathon event includes:   FRIDAY 10TH JULY, 6-10pm: DINNER, DISCUSSION + IDEA SHARING Enjoy a free dinner provided by The Food Co-op in Canberra thanks to key sponsors, ACT Government & ANU Climate Change Institute, as well as discussion of the climate change issues facing Canberra, and then an idea sharing brainstorm to come up with possible solutions. THANKS TO OUR SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKERS: Dr Penny Sackett, Adjunct Professor of the Climate Change Institute among others and former Chief Scientist of Australia Antonio Mozqueira, Manager, Climate Change, Energy and Sustainability Policy, ACT Government Mark Spain, Chair of SEE-Change and leader of numerous community groups in the ACT   SATURDAY 11TH JULY 9am-6pm: PROBLEM SOLVING The Saturday will be focused on choosing the best ideas and developing them into workable solutions. The schedule for Saturday will be quite flexible, depending on the ideas that come out of the Friday night idea sharing session.     THE ROAD TO PARIS 1 project will be supported for 5 months with mentorship and connections to build their idea. Tailored support and mentorship to help you build your project. Connection to local, national and international advisors and organisations to help you take your project to the next level. A chance to build your entrepreneurship skills and networks.   Climate-KIC will review the progress from teams across the globe and choose the best projects to present at COP21 in Paris in December.     IDEA PROPOSALS Teams that are keen to pursue their ideas are encouraged to document a full proposal.
